Description
The Baptistry, along with the Duomo (Dom), the Bell Tower (Leaning Tower), and the Cemetery are located in the Campo dei Miracoli (Piazza del Duomo), Pisa. The Piazza is claimed to be one of the most beautiful squares in the world.
The Baptistry was started in 1153 AD by Diotisalvi, continued by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano and completed in the 14th century, which explains the mix of architectural styles. The lower two levels are in the Pisan-Romanesque style, much of the upper part is Gothic and the dome is in the Byzantine style.
The Baptistry is famous for its acoustics.
