Description
Captured 4/21/10, early in the morning, about 1.8 miles from where I call home.
Dramatically better viewed full size.
One of a total of 76 pics I took of what was left of an ominous looking but essentially rainless storm. Many of you probably get similar cloud formations a good part of the year, but in my neck of the woods, the last time anything scenic and dramatic like this happening was back in December of 2005. A relative rarity, indeed.
I began recording this event the moment I left my place and continued madly snapping away throughout my four mile round trip, dodging traffic and gopher holes all the way.
And, to add icing to the cake, all the photos were postworked for the best effects.
Toodles, thankx for stopping by, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

Well, they sure look like they had some moisture in them, but I suppose they left it off somewhere else. That was my main complaint with So Cal! When we see clouds like that up here (which is frequent) they almost always give us rain. Nicely captured and buffed up to show their best sides!

Palm trees, orange trees, looks like a typical California neighborhood, the neighborhood I grew up was surrounded by orange groves at one time. And the sky sure looks threatening.. its looked like that here all weekend and again today. I can try to send some of ours your way. And I am impressed with you 4 mile walk, another great benefit about photography I love.... Great capture my friend.

Interesting Harry! We had these same clouds this morning but I'm guessing about 3 inches of rain today. Looks very green, in your area, so you must be getting plenty of water from somewhere - sky or irrigation. Dana

oh oh...now I definitly understand what, people think, when they are talking about the sky falling at their heads... they look like they are very low, just above the houses

I'm going back to some of the many shots I missed in your gallery. I loved this, 1) because of the shot, and 2), because of what you went through to get it. Your composition makes the clouds 'everything', they hover over the city ominously, and seem quite threatening. It's amazing this is rare where you are, and all the more that they give no rain. We get clouds like this often in the midwest, but they explode; if they just 'hung' there, we'd think the world was coming to an end. You got the amorphous forms & grays of a dark overcast day, and the blue sky that inexplicably peeks through as if everything were 'fine otherwise'...And of course there's LA below, in a very restful street. There's even a school bus, which gives this an air of real domesticity...Fine work with something I find very difficult to capture: clouds. Fine work. And...only a dedicated photographer would walk these streets, snapping "up" while avoiding potholes and other obstructions below. Only a dedicated photographer would do that. Maybe your neighbors know you enough by now to think, "here he is again: Everyone, out of the way!" More fne work, Harry.
