Description

Dunn's Mill is located just outside of Pigeon Forge, TN. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a date that it was built the day I was there. The mill now serves as an art galery, and book store with a small cafe. One of the workers that was there the day I visited took me out back and let me roam around he just said please shut the gate behind you or the animals will get out.. But he wasn't sure of an exact date but he was sweet to give me a small tour of the grounds. Thank you all for your comments to my last photo below. thumb_2048821.jpg

what a great capture! Love the old building and wagon. Looks like those logs are arriving for processing. And LOVE the names of places down there. Pigeon Forge...with my twisted sense of humor, all I can picture are a few pigeons working in a forge...and it makes me smile, LOL. Trying SO hard to keep their feathers from catching fire... Wonderful capture!!

Fantastic POV! Wonderful textures and atmosphere, except for the signs this could have been taken 100 years ago. Excellent work.

Shades of the Civil War in this old, old timer, Lynell! And what's with those antediluvian wagons? I thought they were cannons at first. Stark contrast and lighting effects dominate this exquisite foto, my friend! I assume that when he finished constructing this edifice, he was all Dunn in.

PARK INFORMATION Nestled in the pristine hills along the Chunky River, in South Lauderdale County Mississippi lies Dunn's Fall's Water park. Here, along a shallow stretch of the Chunky River, the bluffs of the eastern bank rise to tree-top level. From this lofty perch, the flowing water of a stream provides a natural source of power , for the working water wheel before making it's sixty to seventy foot decent to the river below. It features a 65-foot water fall created in the mid 1850's by John Dunn, an Irish immigrant, that not only provides pristine beauty, but also provides the power needed The water wheel was built to power a grist mill the falls, created by diverting a stream that flowed 70 yards from a bluff, cascades over the craggy bluff only to be tamed by the calm, quiet Chunky. The curious and nature lovers alike are drawn to this peaceful, idyllic spot. An 1857 grist mill, moved from Cave Springs, Georgia in 1987 and reconstructed on the site of Dunn's original mill, as well as the rustic homestead fascinate history buffs. Stocked with catfish and complete with ducks, the mill pond and a picnic area are a great spot for a family outing. The crystal clear river offers fishing, canoeing and swimming. A short walk removes visitors from even a nod to civilization, as nature trails wind through the woods which are home to wild turkey, deer, squirrels and other wildlife, carrying hikers - eventually - back to the pond. Primitive camping sites are available for those who like to rough it. And you can enjoy the peace and beauty of this Pat Harrison Water Park, open Wednesday - Sunday 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. There are paddleboats available for rental. http://www.phwd.net/parks/dunns%20falls/default.asp http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2751876610032986124NgOoqg excellent shot.has an appearance of HDR
