Description

I made this picture off the Ravenswood/Brown Line train, on the way to meet Chip in the Loop. For those of you unfamiliar with Chicago, it's the section of elevated train track that loops around the old-time-core of the city's business district. It's not exactly a loop...it's more of a slightly rusty rectangle, but "Loop" sounds better than "Grotty, Rusty Rectangle." The Brown Line train loops the loop and then heads back where it started in the Albany Park area on Chicago's northwest side. The Evanston/Purple-Line train follows a similar course, looping the loop in the opposite direction, before making it's return to--you guessed it--Evanston. One of the fun things (if you have time to spare) is to ride either the brown or the purple line trains--or to ride one, transfer (for free) to the other, and get a pigeon's eye view of downtown Chicago. For those familiar with The Blues Brothers, quite a few of the downtown scenes were shot just under the elevated Loop tracks. When my family moved to Chicago back in the late Stone Age (the 1970s) the rail system became a great plaything for me. I would ride the trains like they were attractions at an amusement park. 30+ years later, I still like riding the mass transit trains. This picture was made between the Sedgwick and Chicago stops along the Ravenswood/Brown Line, on April 17, 2010.

You certainly get to see more than on London's equivalent, the Circle line, which is entirely underground! I really like the hint of the refelections.
