Description

Kimball Kennison, the Grey Lensman, hero of the Lensman series by E.E. Doc Smith! Yes, I know that the Lens in the stories was actually imbedded in the back of his hand. I just took a bit of artistic liscense that looks a bit different. And the lens is green because of a certain comic book superhero whose organization was inspired by the Lensmen. Texture is Clark by Daramski Eye texture and guantlet by me. Background public use image of the M1 Nebula from NASA

looks good val, don't know the story myself but if he wasn't part of one he'd make a good commander for a starship or something :) great work

Don't know who he is but I know who he looks like, The General in "Final Fantasy". Incredible likeness!

Never heard of him myself, but, zorares is right that was what I thought of when I firsted looked the General in "Final Fantasy", of course, it probably had to do with the fact that I just rewatched it this morning.

Nice work Valandar. The Lensmen inspired everything from the GL Corps to the Jedi. Nice to see someone taking it back to the source. Doc Smith rules!

God start Val, but I feel a little texturing on the bodysuit, unless you are trying for a rubber/vinyl look, would add alot to him and maybe something with the hair like a transmap. Though I can't really say much on alot bc I never knew of a lensman comic. X-Men and a few others were more my style. character texture thogh is excellent, as is the background. Both play well together. and excellent work with the eyes ... definately someone I wouldn't want pissed at me LMAO

I was going for the feel of a wetsuit - the space armor used by the Lensmen was supposedly finely tailored, and composed of a durable yet flexible material that did not resemble cloth. Also... the Lensmen weren't a comic. They were a series of Pulp novels by E.E. "Doc" Smith back in the 30's.

Actually, the Lens was not embedded. It was on a bracelet. It could only be touched by its owner as it would kill any other that touched it. I think you have the right look for the suit but I would shrink the bracelet down. It was sometimes kept in a pocket when Kim was in disguise. These comments are based upon reading "The Gray Lensman."

I read the whole series (albiet a long time ago) and svaughan's comments are correct about the Lens. The only thing I would do about Kim himself is maybe make him look less angry. Not only is he married to the only Female Lensman, but he's got five kids who pretty much don't even need Lenses. He doesn't have that much to be angry about. ^^ It's a good series, and I'm looking forward to seeing more fan art from you. ^^ PS, there was a Lensmen Comic, mid-eighties, Eternity Publishing, I think. I believe Jason Waltrip drew and wrote it, and it was ultimatly kiboshed once the Doc Smith estate heard about it (There's some copyright issues to be resolved, I understand). The art was based on an Anime movie and later a series, niether of which followed the books very closely. (Well, you try compressing seven books of pre-tv pulp literature into two hours.)

Ah, thanks, it had been a very long time since I had read the Grey Lensman (the only one I ever watched). The expression was intended to be more "Stern" and "Authoritarian" as opposed to angry, he's fulfilling his duties, after all. And I knew about the anime, but did not know about the manga. Thanks for the info, Dave. And svaghan, like I said above, the gauntlet is artistic liscense. ^_^

Err, that should be "Read", not "Watched"

YOWSA! I mean, YOWSA! This is one sweet friggin' piece of work, pal! Nice use of the Nebula, outstanding detail on the facial expression. I mean, YOWSA! And since I don't want you getting too swelled a head, I think that, er, well, er, you should, er, I know, the lighting on his forehead is .0004% too sharp. Slacker.

Greatest Science Fiction series ever written...the basis for it all in my opinion. Great image and homage to E.E. Doc Smith.

Nice job. Subject-wise, if I recall correctly (big if), the guys are right - the lens itself was worn, but the non-counterfitable image of the galaxy itself was imbedded "in" the wrist. If anyone else wore the lens though... Technically, like it mostly, the suit and expression are great - just add a LITTLE hair detail though, eh?
