Isn't it amazing what detail the camera will show us that our own eyes never see? Fabulous macro.

Woodlice are such fascinating creatures! I've learned more about them here on RR (from Chip) than I ever knew in my life. They have some very interesting habits!

How did I miss this! These are my official macots! And you captured this one perfectly. I'm not even going to ask how you got this little guy to sit still long enough to be captured. The details on this are amazing, and I have yet to capture so cooperative a woodlouse. I've gotten quite a few, but most of them were the surly Chicago sorts of woodlice, interested in anything but being photographed. Funny thing about woodlice, they're not wooden, nor are they lice. They're actually crustaceans and those horns on the back are called teslons, they use 'em to smell with...they can smell out of both ends of their bodies, drink through their bum, and vent ammonia between their armor plates. Hmmm...I think I might know a wee bit too much about these critters, but suffice it to say, this is a marvelous shot...perfect in fact, and I love the fact that you caught this little beauty!
