Description

Yesterday was a Hare (Rabbit), so I guess its only fare to include this guy. This is actually a Box Turtle that I moved out of the street yesterday The Tortoise and the Hare is a fable attributed to Aesop. The story concerns a hare who ridicules a slow-moving tortoise. In response, the tortoise challenges his swift mocker to a race. The hare soon leaves the tortoise far behind and, confident of winning, he decides to take a nap midway through the course. When he awakes, however, he finds that his competitor, crawling slowly but steadily, has already won the race.

And this little fellow here is one of my favorites. I had 3 as pets while I was a little girl. Awesome shot indeed. He looks a bit tired with the red eyes ;-)

I love the expression on his face, worthy of Aesop himself...there's a look of patience that these little critters all wear. What details too! WOW! In short, this is a marvelous shot all around. I love the intensity of that red eye as well, and it's good to know that red-eyes don't always have to mean one too many at the local bar the night before.

Turtles are amazing... I've had several different types and each one has something new and different to teach me. This is a fabulous shot...so much detail!

Good looking Box Turtle. The red colored eye means it is a male. Females have creamy white eyes. Nice capture and a nice reminder of a old classic tale. Turn your back on a box turtle for a few minutes and he will disappear even if you are standing in the middle of a football field, lol. I used to see these all the time. I would find a half dozen or so on my property each year and on every trip to town on back roads, I would always see a couple of them - but no more. I only see one every year of so any more. I am sure it is a direct result of clear cutting the woodlands and human habitation. Such is the way of progress. We are the poorer for it. Thanks for sharing. Lee

Excellent picture. He does look pretty determined. At least this guy won't run away from you as you try to take his picture. Thanks for moving him out of harm's way.
