Description

The Sedlec Ossuary is a small Roman Catholic chapel, located beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints in Sedlec, a suburb of Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic. The ossuary is estimated to contain the skeletons of between 40,000 and 70,000 people, many of whom have had their bones artistically arranged to form decorations and furnishings for the chapel. The Ossuary is a major plot device in John Connolly's novel The Black Angel, and it was by reading it that I learned of its existence. In the novel, however, the reader has the impression it's much larger. The ossuary was also used as a location for movies: Dungeons and Dragons,Blood and Chocolate, and Adaptation. It was also the influence for Dr. Satan's lair in Rob Zombie's film House Of 1000 Corpses. More Bones to Come! Thanks for your kind comments.

Sandra once again you have pulled me in with one of your fantastic photos and stories. I too had never heard of this place before now and thanks to your wonderful gallyer I'm gong to investigate it further. It's funny as I have both the Dungeons and Dragons movie and House of 1000 Corpses but all this time had no idea of their connection with this place.

Well rattle my bones and call me chop sticks! If this isn't a rib tickler! Quite the scene you have captured Sandra! Very well done! And thanks again for the references! You have such a vast repertoire of information you carry with you! I am always pleased and amazed at your exquisite attentions to details!

I think giving your bones up to enhance the decor for all people to see sounds like a pretty decent thing to do. I love this display. Well done.

This in any csae looks better then the bone-chambers in Verdun heheheh. i remember i think i was 10-11 years of age and we went to see the "Ossuaire"in Verdun where a lot of bones from soldiers from WWI.that was gruesome this here is more artistically. very well done sandra and favorite.

Oh, what a splendid title, very creepy; and interesting story with all that bones and sculpts, now using for film and artistic options.
