Description
Presented in conjunction with the Shanghai-San Francisco Sister City 30 Anniversary Celebration,
Thank you for stopping and taking a look.
It is greatly appreciated.
Discovered this Public Art going up at City Hall this past week and had a chance to photograph it yesterday. Unfortunately, there is still a chain link fence surrounding it until May 12,for the opening ceremony. Until then, I have to have patience until I can get closer.
Project Description:
Zhang Huans colossal Three Heads, Six Arms (2008) will make its world premiere in the heart of San Francisco's Civic Center. Standing over 26 feet tall and weighing almost 15 tons, the copper sculpture is the artist's largest work to date. Three heads Six Arms is part of an important series of monumental works depicting the arms, legs, feet, hands and heads of Buddhist sculptures. The series was inspired by the artist's experience seeing remnants of religious sculptures that had been destroyed during the Cultural Revolution for sale in a Tibetan Market.
