Description

Hi there. The announced bee will come a bit later, first I like to show you a little non biting midge (Chironomidae) I found sitting on my windowpane. I try to get some good closeups through the windowpane because of the midge was sitting outside and would fly away when I open the window. So I tried to manage a good shot of her belly *g*. It's not the best quality, I know, but holding the cam freehand with an external flashlight on it and try to reflect the light with the other hand to the right place was not really easy. The midge was about 8-10mm long. BTW - I like the antennas the most. Have all a great weekend.

Cool capture and a unique POV. I am not familiar with this species but I think feathery antenna indicates a male. They use them to detect females. I think you did well with the lights and window glass. You got nice details. Thanks for sharing. Lee

What a wonderful shot of an intriguing creature with a rather whimsical name--for some reason, the name "Midge" always makes me think of a punctuation mark that doesn't exist in English grammar but is common the world over...and for some strange reason, I can hear teachers in some other always reminding their young, young students to "always remember to dot your midge." But I digress. I love this shot and the details. The antennae are stunning and probably exceptionally efficient. It's so nice to see the underside and the elegantly, elongated face of this critter. This is marvelous! Simply perfect!
