Description


This old farmer is called Reg Warren - I captured this about 50 years ago when in this village of Thorncombe in Dorset, UK, milk delivery to the homes was by hand as shown. The contraption over his shoulders is called a yoke from which hung chains to carry the milk pails. The milking would have been done by hand. Sorry for the quality of the picture but I thought you might like to share this bit of rural history. Jeff.

Great capture! Even if it's almost as old as me. ;D Back then we had Milk-men, but they had trucks and milk and cream in glass bottles they would put in your Milk-box outside the door.

In the early '40s, my mother took the milk with the bike, with cylinders attached to the back, above the wheel ! Great capture !

Oh Jeff, this is wonderful to look at, and for remembering, what was at that time. Here in Holland this was also done like that. But I guess much longer ago than 50 years. And they used an other kind of baskets, more open. Love this picture!
