Description
I've been battling my annual cold/flu, which arrived four months late this year, the past few weeks. Got it just about beat so I took a little walk today. Spring has really become embarrassingly extravagant here in Southern California. Couldn't find this one on the Internet but it has a lovely color.
UPDATE: Carin (Meisiekind) gets today's award for naming this plant; Plumbago auriculata. Also known as Cape Leadwort, Plumbago (English); Blousyselbos (Afrikaans); umabophe (Xhosa/ Zulu) umasheleshele (Zulu). Family: Plumbaginaeae (from http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantnop/plumbago.htm). Thanks Carin, you rock!

Sorry to her about the flu! Hope you be better soon! I have been sick since Friday.... Wonderful shot of these lovely blooms. It is called Plumbago auriculata and as far as I know they are indigenous to South Africa. They grow wild here!!! If you look closely you will see the little hooks at the end on the blooms! The cats love to walk around underneath it and then those little hooks stick in their coats! They would come back in full of blooms... Too funny!

What a FAB pic, Mark! We have to grow this inside here and only take it out in summer.

Amazing flowers. Amazing shot. The assortment of stages in the blooms is great. Feel better...I put my back out on Saturday while pulling beets in the garden. Been low all weekend but its back to work today - thank heavens for pain meds. :-)

Very sorry to hear about the flu. I hope you are soon fully recovered. Beautiful capture! Wonderful detail and color! Lovely detail of the long, narrow and tightly wound buds. One is just beginning to loosen. I like the flower that refuses to go with the pack and has one blue stripe that branches out into two.
