Description

Yesterday I visited an open day at one of the nicest looking locations in my Wildlife Trust handbook in search of bluebells. The place is known as Foxholes and was once a part of the ancient Wychwood Forest. The location was beautiful (even if the road to get there was so crappy I couldn't avoid scraping the bottom of my car a few times getting there!)... but the bluebells seem a little late this year. There was a pretty solid covering but many hadn't fully bloomed yet. The light was also very patchy, and in the end I decided to have a little play around with some abstract ideas I had. I'll probably head back again next weekend but all the same I quite like the impressionist qualities of this one. It reminds me of the sense of being out of time I experienced while I was deep in the woods, off the beaten trail with not another soul in sight. Pretty much all done in camera by smoothly tilting the lens upwards during the exposure. I purposely left the contrast very soft (it's all midtones really) and added a couple of very low opacity watercolour and Orton layers to enhance the dreamy effect of the image.
