Description

Further to my pictures of a few weeks ago, the Wiltshire downs (Berwick Down to be precise), This is the clump of Beech trees under which my Grandfather and Father used to shelter when sheperding on these downs, snowstorms, wind and rain would occasionally drive them under cover. All over Wiltshire, and particularly on Salisbury plain and its fringes you will find these clumps planted generations ago mainly for this purpose. Again i would draw the attention to those who might be interested in the life of a sheperd to the book, A Sheperds Life by W H Hudson, a marvellous book.

Glad to see such a nice stand of beech. Before they get this large in central NH USA they often fall over, or larger limbs break off.

A beautifully simple scene Alan, but what have those trees witnessed over the years?
