Description

Bryce6.1/DazStudio/Photoscape/Photoshop On Monday,May 10 the world lost a true legend with the death of Frank Frazetta at age 82.His fantasy and sci-fi images inspired a whole generation of artists, and still does today. As a youth, his drawings and paintings were a huge influence on me,I was amazed at how he could capture light and shadow and paint the human form with such conviction. This was what I tried to convey in this homage piece...he will be greatly missed! Figure is Michael3 with my own morphs,a skin texture from the creature character set and Notthar outfit(all from Daz).Trees and ferns are part of Daz's Trees For The Forest set, textured in Bryce presets.Terrain is a mossy wood texture, modified.Gravestone is a terrain, with Notthar sword crossed with a pencil and paintbrush from Daz's Mini Art Set to symbolize the tools of Frazetta's trade. The skull pile is a freebee, though I can't remember where I got it from. The gravestone is textured in a modified Seriously Real terrain material. The shape was created in Photoshop as a template and brought into the TE.Sunlight was turned off and replaced with a spotlight with soft shadows.A cone textured in a modified lit rays was added for light rays.Vines are part of the Jungle Vines set from Daz. Post involved a levels and saturation adjustment, slight paint texture effect and signature. Thanks for viewing and any comments!

I think you caught some of Frank Frazetta's style, but far from all of it. But this is a good picture in itself and a good homage to an excellent artist. Frank Frazetta's style is difficult to replicate in a 3D application alone. Not alone are his characters special, his style of almost always painting with clearly visible strokes makes them very unique. I agree with you, that a great artist will be missed.

Frank Frazetta shall be greatly missed. I do hope that his works will be admired for many years to come. " Anima eius et animae omnium fidelium defunctorum per Dei misericordiam requiescant in pace. " " May his soul and the souls of all the departed faithful by God's mercy rest in peace. " :-{..

Superb image and homage to a wonderful artist. I was also completely captivated by Frazetta's use of light and movement, and his outstanding compositional skills. He will be sorely missed.

Try using an SSS skin shader. It'll give you ambient occlusion and stuff.

I'm so far removed from society it seems, I just found out by seeing this tribute today. I'm heartbroken. I loved Frank. He was my mentor, the man who got me into the fantasy genre and gave my art direction when I was in my mid teens back in the 70s. Thank you for a wonderful tribute. I'm glad it was you, an artist I admire and respect, to be the one to break the news to me with your wonderful art. This will be a piece I will bitter sweetly treasure forever.
