Description
The Beaumaris Hotel was the best pub around in the eyes of us locals. This was 20 years ago. They served the best fresh seafood with great service. It sure was a great night out. The entire building was painted a glimmering white that stood out for miles. Fresh fish tanks in the windows beckoned the passer by to sample the delicacies on offer.
Then some bright spark thought they needed poker machines, and lots of them. With a few weeks, the place was full of machines that very quickly attracted problem gamblers from all of the district. Fights were common place, the place started to smell of body odor and sound like Las Vegas with an Aussie accent. Cigarettes and broken dreams filled the night air, and us locals stopped going.
It's been closed for many years now, and very soon will be demolished to make way for a new housing development. This historic building deserved better.

Very descriptive narrative and a sad ending to what sounds like a great place. "Progress" sucks sometimes.

Excellent pano - this must have been a great place in its prime. Sad to see it go to ruin.

Well, mate.. (Gotta say, you and me have just about the same outlook on life at the moment!), you have saved me having a rant this time.. Good on ya! Sod it! I'm gonna anyway.. lol It happens here.. We have 24 Hour drinking here.. Cheap drink (very!!! Drink as much as you can in..etc!), Casino's spring up all over the place.. The old traditional pub (fireplace, hand drawn ale, friendly barmaid.. etc, is just about gone.. All (most), are owned by the monster brewing corporations, that have no interest in the 'old ways'.. I am kind of lucky.. I have a pub near me.. (I will get pictures), where they serve real ale still, its won national awards as the best pub, it has open fireplaces, its a local brewery (only about 10 pubs in all) but still, the bar maids are East European, all dress the same and barely know how to add up.. Right Rant over... Phew! A sad picture mate.. If only the locals couldn't club together and buy it? open it themselves maybe? No, to much... Good one mate.. Rob
