Description

The Adria Palace in the New Town in Prague is an important modernist building. It has a Cubist facade and a huge sculptural group on the ledge of the parapet, you can see here. The building was one of the centres of the Velvet Revolution in 1989. It was built by Pavel Janak in 1925, and it is an unusually late example of integrated sculpture. Sharp points, slicing planes, crystalline shapes. These are the trademarks of the Czech Cubists – a unique, avant-garde group, feverishly active in Prague between 1910 and 1914. As well as fine art, they left behind them building facades prickling with little pyramids, furniture bursting with energy, and decorative objects dynamized with stark black lines. Thank you for your kind comments.

You won't see building decorations like this in any other city. Prague is unique in it's artistic accomplishments.

This is beautifully stunning. I love the postwork you've done here; it's so perfectly integrated with the Czech Cubist lines of this great building. I wish that Czech Cubism caught on elsewhere! Hmmm...I wonder if it did? This is great work, as always!
