Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Awesome effect! When I first saw this, I thought it was a-flame :)

It's very snowy, very crystalline, which makes me think of Superman's Fortress of Solitude (the movie version) on some serious growth hormones. That's a good thing, by the way. I like the complexity of the tree branches covered in snow, and that urban orange light from high-pressure sodium vapor always looks so...urban. This has a fantastic mood to it as well...very solitary; not lonely, just solitary, like you're wandering through the urban jumble, taking in the sights and sounds. Really nice work. Hmm...I'll have to look back and see when your Tangerine Period actually started. I like it and it'll be interesting to compare earlier Tangerinesque pieces to this. Great work.

My first thought when I saw the thumbnail was, "Oh goody, another tangerine shot!" I get very childlike when I see something I like, and I love your tangerine series too. This is wonderful! I love the heavy dark curves of the branches on the top right. It looks like a river of molten gold is flowing alongside the building. The light is causing fascinating striations on the building and marvelously shining, almost white branches. The varying contrasts and jumbled up patterns of the branches is beautiful and reminds me of the veins on the images of dried leaves that Helle posted a while back. This image also shows the wonderfully wild patterns of nature in a compelling light. I like the contrast of them against the regulated patterns of the windows which are made more interesting by its slight tilt. Speaking of tilt, I am not in front of my laptop, so tilting the screen back and forth was more difficult, but well worth the contortions. Picture me bent down with head at lap level looking up and then up on my tiptoes. Glowing motion in a bed of lava turned into blasts of searing light. An excellent addition to your tangerine series!
