Description

Click/hiss - oh @#!$ - now what? (Click to see full/large image) The Down-Bore had sat in this spot before the human colony had arrived. Who made it? Unknown. Was it dead? Very much no - it was very much alive and in a passive defense mode. Many early explorers had died trying to force their way inside. So it was now illegal to try and enter. 'illegal' meant that for the past 30 years it had been left to 'kids' to try - punching the two permitted guesses on the keypad as they passed. Two was safe - the third wrong code within 23.6 minutes caused a small & painful lightning storm around the door. It wasn't dangerous to most people, but it was nothing that you wanted to taste a second time! The access code consisted of 8 alien symbols from a pallet of 37 - from 'grunt' to 'smacker'. The kids had assigned their own sounds to the unknown symbols. You picked eight, then waited for a 'yah' or 'nay' light ... but it was always 'nay', for there were too many combinations. Miss Tininka had been passing this site on purpose and punching in random codes since she had been allowed to cruise alone. Yet today her left diffy-belt had been slipping, so she'd stopped for a few hours to scrape the belt clean. It was simple work. Slow work. Setting a console alarm for 24 minutes, she'd already entered 7 codes over the past hour and 10 minutes ... just for grins. Yet this time - her eighth code - there had been a solid click, then the hiss of air equalizing ... ==== Me playing with outdoor lighting. Haha - yah, I'm still think what! I suppose it could be nothing - an alien gardener's tool shed. Or an elevator down (that's what the colony expects). Or ... something else :-)

Well, she might be about to learn that there are things you shouldn't get right. Or maybe there are untold riches and treasures and stuff in there. Or maybe it's an ancient outhouse. Or... well, you get the idea.
