Description
Captured 5/22/10, early on an overcast morning, within walking distance of my antediluvian abode.
Better viewed full size.
This common, ubiquitous, and weed plant form displays many delicate and interesting characteristics.
Believe it or not, none of these pics were done at the macro setting; I stood several feet from the subject matter and carefully zoomed in, using the auto picture mode. My Canon PowerShot A1000 aim and shoot camera then automatically determined the correct focus and that was that. Maybe not the sharpest way in capturing the detail and texture, but at least it saved me the effort of bending down and over.
So long, thankx for the visit, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

Technically speaking, these are not macro or micro photos. Please read the narrative.

this shot are gorgous, every one for itself, but as a combination it's like a song ending in a crescendo!

The bottom one is particularly brill!

They are all wonderful. I agree with Andrea that the last one is the best. I love the detail of the lines and the bright light on each of the seed heads. It's like there is a star hidden in each seed. Beautiful captures!

loved this the minute it went up. First, your using zoom rather than macro means we get a softer more "overall" feel of these flowers, which is an equally fine way to view them (macro would accentuate intimate details and also throw some sections out of focus, a different way of seeing things). The feel of zoom---without any zoom artifacts (grain, etc)---makes this all-present "weed" shine forth as a beautiful, soft presence. And the whole collection is beautiful. Makes me appreciate the unappreciated dandelions all the more. You may know it already, but "dandelion" originally meant "lion's tooth," for the shape of the leaves---ie, jagged, like teeth. But the namers forgot about the flower. When the flower gives way to seeds, it does a transformation which is rare in the flower kingdom (I assume), and you've captured the beauty, burst and silken texture of it as well as any dandelion shot I've seen. Your montage moves from group to closer to closer; and the bottom shot is triumphal, like a collection of small flower-fireworks, and the softness is just perfect. (Macro would not have given you that...so even though you were saving your back, the choice was great.) A terrific collection, Harry, I love the feel of all of them, they're like dreams as much as flowers; and the last one is positively enveloping. Bravo. And btw, what in the world does "brill" mean??? (Ie, Andrea's comment.) I'm sure it's good, but I couldn't find it in my dictionary. Ah well... we really are two cultures separated by a common language...
