Description

Northern Lights Swept by solar winds In a wondrous flight Reaching like a rainbow across the night Touching every heart Healing every soul With eternal light. Arctic Wonders prose by Carol Cavalaris © Credits: Another in my 'Spirit Of The Wild' series, paying tribute to the magnificent Polar Bear, and its struggle to survive with the Arctic ice melting and threatening their habitat. Created in Photoshop CS, using a photo, painting techniques, blended with a background by linwhite. Lovely work for this romantic looking scene, I feel like the polar bear needs a big cuddle, he looks so lovely and soft and cuddly. Beautiful work with the colouring and brushwork.

Superb! I really like the way bear and aurora seem so intimately linked, like one is coming from the other, but they're not blurred or confused, just connected in some subtle, existential way. I happen to love polar bears too...they're quite predatory, but also incredibly cute. I have no idea how they pull that off, but it's marvelous! I also like the fact that they're a natural marvel. I remember seeing a documentary once, about Siberian polar bears. It was your usual well-produced documentary, but I particularly remember seeing a mother polar bear and her cub. She was perfectly motionless, looking at something, and from the angle at which she was captured, she looked a bit like a snow drift with a nose! I've always liked them since seeing that! This ranks right up there with the snow-drift with the nose! That's a good thing!

sometimes your work has several creatures in various musical relations to each other; but this one is a singular presence, a large soft but mountainous thing which, though like light, dominates the entire image like a huge clump of earth. Your pov (forgive the photographic term) lets us see the true mass of the beast; seeing it, as we do, via a big broad swath of its body. And the hues---those yellowish, whitish & brown coat-hues---makes it shine as if it were an apparition, or made of light rather than flesh. Not easy to get that and massivity in one image. The surroundings are simple but sumptuous, and the aurora borealis is painted with painterly opulence, the peak of its hues extending the bear's head. A beautiful evocation, filled with very warm light (nice contrast to the cold white domain in which the bear lives), and glowing with a real inner warmth. Beautiful work from you, once more.
