Description

During my long drive from Kansas to Washington I got fairly proficient at one-handed, point and shoot photography using my DSLR camera and wide angle (12-60mm) zoom lens. I preset all my manual camera settings and shot these images using Aperture Priority. This photo was taken last Saturday evening driving 75 mph west on Interstate 90 (I-90) in South Dakota. The car radio was full of severe weather warnings about thunderstorms producing large size hail and possibly spawning natures most violent storms...tornadoes. This sky looked both friendly and ominous at the same time to me. I was quite relieved about four hours later to arrive safely at my hotel in Rapid City, South Dakota. Fantastic capture, Bill! lovely colours. Glad you were able to get to your destination safely, although a shot of the hail would have been interesting (a shot taken while not driving)

It's amazing how the sunset itself looks like a golden, buttery dome with those nicely broken clouds drifting just in front of it. The colors are astounding, and the clarity is breathtaking. The sky is so much bigger there--as only it would be outside of any large city! Chicago skies seem so small, and I'm always amazed at the sight of a horizon without buildings in front of it! Marvelous! This is one of the best sunsets I've seen in quite a long time. Great work!

Mighty nice one, Bill! I love the way the streaks of sunlight are radiating from the clouds. Masterful 'enroute' shooting, I must say!
