Description
For many Europeans of my generation Dennis Hopper has been a myth, and still is. Hence, I dedicate this collage to him. It does NOT represent a real landscape, but an ideal one. As such, it was assembled using a sky from Canada, a road from the Central Plains, and a biker from a non-descript Northeastern urban freeway. The bike, in contrast, was taken in Padova, Italy, just a few metres from my home! There are many HD chapters in this region and a huge meeting every year in Padova from all over Europe.
'For some Europeans I know, an American superhighway is an attraction of the first rank, the more barren the better, because it is thereby more American' (Dean MacCannell, The Tourist 1976).
'At dawn my bus was zooming across the Arizona desert - Indio, Blythe, Salome (where she danced); the great dry stretches leading to Mexican mountains in the south. Then we swung north to the Arizona mountains, Flagstaff, cliff-towns. I had a book with me I stole from a Hollywood stall, Le Grand Meaulnes by Alain-Fournier, but I preferred reading the American landscape as we went along. Every bump, rise, and stretch in it mystified my longing' (Jack Kerouac, On the Road 1957)

This is a marvelous tribute! I love the execution as well as the sentiment! Marvelous work. And yeah, Europeans do have a thing for the American Highway, which is odd, because the American Highway system has its origins in Germany; the Autobahn is the slightly older cousin of the American Open Road, although the American Open Road has its own roots in the Frontier that once comprised what has now been tragically urbanized! But anyway, I'm rambling on, when all I really wanted to say is that this is a marvelous piece of work!

Ciao, buona serata
