Description

~The Memorial~ They all stood there in stoic lines faces etched with careworn times. Grey and stark in unwavering file as they stretched out mile upon mile Silver streaked the skies above their un phased ranks slow, somber drizzle a whispered wish, words of thanks Amid those ranks a single form broke the even strings, a young child, clad in black in her hand grasped parents wedding rings She stood proud, and didn't flinch when the rifles shot the honour salute but silent tears fell when the piper raised his flute Turning to her brother dressed in formal blues and taking his hand with a gentle squeeze remembering the morning when they'd got the news When the last strains of the pipers tune diminished brother and sister stepped up as one each placing a rose on mahogany graves the brave young soldier paced back and came undone The girl caressed each casket in turn whispering softly, though all heard her clear "We miss you more than you'll ever know but it's because what you did that we all are here." She looked to the Pastor, with tears in her eyes, handing him a red rose and saying softly "That's for all the others that died." ~~In memory of the freedom we oft take for granted, and those men and women who have insured that it stays that way.
