Landscape in Bryce - other work done in UF5 and Apophysis. Postprocessing in Paint Shop Pro X.
At any rate, it's difficult to decide what exactly is rising. Is it a bird, a dragon, maybe a phoenix? It is NOT smoke. That's a magical, clean burning flame, very environmentally sound.
You decide.

Love that image, really good feeling. Just before checking the Renderosity gallery, I was reading a book from Anatoly Fomenko, a russian mathematician and artist, strangely your image reminded me a little bit his work...
