Description
The prettiest beaches I've ever walked on. This was taken about 3 or so weeks ago - after the spill in the Gulf but long before the poison was approaching this area.
Today there are blobs of oil coming in. Very soon the birds, turtles, dolphins, crabs, and scores of fish will be dying. I've never seen anything more pathetic than a pelican whose wings are so heavily laden with oil he cannot even lift them. And that's only what will be visible from shore. Under the gulf is just as scary. Maybe even more so and longer lasting.
I don't mean to be negative here, but if I was and wrote how I really felt this post would probably offend someone and get deleted.
But when I imagine in my mind what this beach I've loved for forty years looks like today, I'm thinking some people need to be a lot more than just offended.

bp needs to freakin' get that crap cleaned up, such a shame these beautiful beaches and animals are dying because of OIL! very nice capture.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful image. I am heartsick about what's happening on those beaches in the oil's wake. But if you have photos of the beach littered with oil covered birds, turtles and fish as dramatic and poignant as those photos may be I don't think I want to see it.

I think people NEED to be offended over this! This is a HUGE disaster that has the ability to turn the Gulf of Mexico into a dead zone...taking people's livelihoods, not to mention the environmental impact. I notice that they have seemed to have kept pictures of the dead and dying creatures that have been affected by this disaster. The area in Louisiana where the pelicans nest has been covered by oil...eggs, babies, adults covered in oil. Once again, man's greed has destroyed that which we have been given stewardship over.....

Being from the Gulf Coast and spending most of my adult life as part of a commercial shrimping family, the meaning of this photo does not pass me up. How beautiful these beaches are. I believe the best lessons learned are those where the worst mistakes are made and so I believe also that we will see the other side of this one day and not repeat the errors made that created the devastation.

Gorgeous and yet tragic. All I can say is I hope something happens soon to put an end to this.

If I were to leave the comment in my heart. I would more than likely get myself banished. Gorgeous beach!

You can't help but be negative, what has happened in the gulf is a horror of unfathomable proportions perpetrated by arrogance, stupidity and greed. It's a crime to see a beautiful beach of such pristine beauty, succumb to what will come. I am quite a bit south of you and every day I watch the pelicans dive bombing into the water, I can't imagine them coming up drenched in oil. I am very fearful of the future. Beautiful shot a most beautiful beach.
