While I'd be the first to admit that this sort of medication has helped a lot of parents and kids, I also feel that it's too often looked to as a solution in the place of good and involved parenting. There are those out there who see boyish behavior as a disease to be treated rather than than the differences that God intended. The desire for Stepford boys is not healthy.

Boys will be boys...and they should be able to. I agree. I've seen some lethargic over-dosed kids. I think sometimes it's the parents who need to take a pill. (Although some kids are little spazzes). Whatever happened to "Just Say No"? Great idea and render.

The three biggest lies in America; 1) One Size fits all 2) The Check is in the mail 3) I'm from the Government and I'm here to help. This image expresses 1 and 3. There were two paths to human history, Hunger Gatherer and agrarian. The Agrarian would plant and harvest, in between they would wait patiently. The hunter gatherer had to go out and be capable of shifting attention in an instant. So you take someone with Hunter Gatherer tendencies and put them in a Government Run One Size Fits All institution (called school) and tell them to sit still and shut up like an Agrarian. While failing, often, in the institutional environment ADD people tend to be Highly Successful in the Real World, often owning thier own businesses. Excellent concept and image.

I agree with jaydee, Western society, and America especially, wants to turn kids into little independently operating clones. What happened to slowing down and being a kid?

That's just the thing Zaarin, they want these kids to be lethargic drones who are easily controlled.

Could not agree more with this. However I think these drugs don't help worth a damn in any case, but that's neither here nor there. It's good to know I'm not alone in these thoughts. Childhood isn't a disease, nor is it even a "disorder," which is (let's be honest) a really vague term.

Are these drugs over prescribed these days. Yes. Do I blame the parents. No Instead I blame pill happy doctors. Most doctors are slaves to drug representatives and only too happy to shove a prescription across the desk in the 1-2 minutes they spend with the patient. These drugs WHEN PROPERLY DISPENSED AFTER A THOROUGH EVALUATION are valuable tools in helping those who need them focus on tasks rather than "antisocial" behavior.

Many college kids are using this on a regular basis to stay up longer to study, etc. So are college professors. Most of them think it's ok to do so. Medical folks say this drug is addictive and can cause internal organ damage over time.
