Andrea gets up at 0-dark-thirty from time to time to go out and count birds. Here's a heron you can just enjoy on your birthday, and if you need to count it, you won't be long at the task! O-dark-thirty! I love that, and this is a superb birthday gift! I happen to like herons, they remind me of a race of aliens I can't remember the name of..."Kweku" or something like that. David Brin wrote them in his Uplift universe. Anyway, I'm rambling. I love this shot. Herons are such elegant creatures; they always pose so elegantly. This is a perfect birthday gift! One of the best around!

lol, a doorman at a very expensive hotel! A wonderful capture, and with fine lines & textures both in the bird and the background. The stringy grasses in the background really do harmonize with the stringy nature of its feathers. (Maybe it was just in the water, maybe that's where it got its stringiness from.) A wonderful subject for Andrea, who not only counts birds, but presents us with all kinds of pieces of nature everyday. And I second your words on her enthusiasm & encouragement. She gives it in spades. Fine gift. And Happy Birthday, Andrea!

Hmmmm - 0-dark-thirty.... I couldn't count that high (1) at that hour. I'm doing good to get up at 6:30 and not kill myself falling over things (like the floor, for instance..). Great shot of this heron - they are not easy to get a good shot of. Every time I try they just give me a dirty look, and fly off! Happy Birthday, Andrea!

Got a kick out of this heron. There were all kinds of people nearby...but he just sat their taking in the sights. It was like all of us people were there just for his entertainment:) Just the right choice for Andrea today. Andrea, do let me say it one more time...Happy Birthday:-)))
