Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

I knew it Corey! 2009...not a 2010 model car in the photo. OK, so I am kidding but wanted you to know I was inspecting the details of this neighborhood photo. Colorful and interesting. As a flash-in-the-pan two day tourist in Chicago, I haven't seen anything of the southside yet. By reputation, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable there unless being guided by a native like you or Chip:)

Love the way the clouds are keeping pace with the traffic, going in the proper direction. It's like a race ... I like the cityscape, but I keep being drawn back to those clouds!!

The sky is compelling attention. Your description is fascinating.

This could easily have been a neighbourhood here in Johannesburg was it not for the traffic in your image all driving on the wrong side of the road!!! LOL.... Wonderful blue sky day with a mood of "everyone is doing there won thing"... I like this Corey!

You have such a knack for taking what seems to be a fairly ordinary foto, and turning into something full of so much life and detail. The sky really makes this shot, gives it a feel of being even bigger than life---this rocks!!

wonderful sky, it's parallel to the street! great urban shot, with the 'askance', unbalanced POV!

You were in my old neck of the woods--well...sort of! I grew up not too far from there, and seeing this reminds me of how the only thing that really changed in that area of the city are the clouds and the makes of cars. I know exactly where you were standing and exactly what's not really around the area. And I have to say what a surreal experience it is to see Beverly here on Renderosity and not in my gallery! It's like watching a movie and seeing a some big name movie star doing something logical in terms of the movie, but totally illogical in terms of your day to day reality: like, oh, buying a hot dog from a push-cart vendor on a street that's supposed to be busy, but in all actuality, it's that spot behind grocery store where the owner's cute son worked before going off to college...but now I'm rambling. This is a nice shot and I like the vague implication of a fish-eye effect. Those clouds are amazing!

I love the way you've tilted this! It give it the look of a marble and the feeling that not only could I reach up and touch the sky, but when I did it would be gently convex instead of concave. The people are going about their usual routines and something strange is happening above them. Excellent image and very interesting narrative!
