Description

East of Chapel Fields and South of Edgwick, in a Glenn to the west of town, she lives alone in a small cottage. According to records in the Kent County Courthouse, the cottage should be a National Historic Landmark. It was built in 1698, when the area was called Warwick, and the property has been in the hands of the same family ever since. The cottage is located off of the Shadey Valley Road before you reach the Hill Farm Road. You'd easily miss the turnoff to her home if you weren't looking for it. Were it not for the mailbox, there would be no indication that the old lane is anything more than a horse or walking trail leading ito the woods. Some say the current resident must be the daughter or Grandaughter of the woman who used to live there, since she'd be well over 100 if it were the same woman. Yet the current property title is in the name of Charlotte H. Walton, the same name as the original owner. However, anyone can see that the current resident, Charlotte Walton, cannot be more than thirty. It is said that when she is out and about, birds will flock to her to be fed directly from her hands, and that her voice can tame wild dogs. There is even a spot neare her cottage where children have placed hurt or injured animals, over the years, and it is assumed that she cares for them. The animals are always gone the next day, still, no one has ever seen her collect them. Even as the occupant of the cottage may have changed, much remains the same. Children still dare one another to go up and pull on the rope that rings the bell by her door. And, of course, the mark is always told the scary stories that she's a witch, and if she catches you, she'll turn you into a toad, or something else unpleasant. Or, if she thinks you are young and tender enough, she'll eat you up. Of course today, many of the youths are so much more sophisticated, and they will dare each other to Tag her cottage. But in spite of protestations by youngsters that they did spray paint their tag on the cottage, no evidence ever seems to show up on the walls of her home. The cottage looks the same as it ever has. Perhaps she really is a witch... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I think that I shall have to explore some more with her. NOTE: Some of you may recognize that I have taken some artistic license with history in the background notes above. Credits are as follows... From the background info I would be more inclined to call her a Wiccan on a Druid, but after seeing the pointy hat and couldron I'd have to agree with the title of Witch! Nice narrative for the image. Be cool to see more.
