There was a vote in the UN. The vote was a legal and valid vote. The war is not illegal.

It's gonna take them how long to come to an already formed conclusion???????????????????

Just for the record, the UN security council was deeply divided on the issue. It demanded from Iraq full cooperation in WMD verification and announced "serious consequences" if Iraq failed to cooperate. This formulation was an obvious compromise. The US and the UK then set up the "coalition of the willing" to prepare for war. Blair always wanted an authorisation from the UN Security council but at one point realized that it would never come to pass. He then had to choose between legality and his alliance with Bush and finally opted for the latter. Fact is, an invasion is illegal under international war if it isn't authorized under chapter VII UN Charter. This didn't happen. Period. The weapons inspectors kept looking all the time, in vain. Finally, in early 2003 they were ordered by the US to leave the land or be bombed like everyone else. Some say Iraq failed to fulfill the 1991 ceasefire agreement which ended the 1991 ceasefire, which in turn would make a new UNSC resolution superfluous. Sounds nice but doesn't work: The UN never delegated the question of resuming the 1991 Gulf War to individual states. The UN security council always remained "actively seized of the matter", i.e. never delegated the question of war and peace to the US.
