Description

Surface lava had stopped in the lower coastal plains. Way up the Pali (hill), lava is moving down thru lava tubes and into a rootless shield at about the 1900 ft elevation. Rootless shields are piles of lava fed via of lava tubes. Think of a large swimming pool or lava pond. The lava is over flowing on the west side of the rootless shield, on the same side of the last remaining house in Royal Gardens (Jack Thompson's house). If the walls of the rootless shield collapse, it will send a large amount of lava downwards. For now, we wait and see. Aloha and thank you for viewing

Another fascinating image of the lava, with a good lesson to go along with it to explain the rootless shields to us. Is the house still occupied while they wait to see if it survives?

Looks to be a fair bit of ash and air in this mix. Looking a lot like pumice, great shot!

in a lesson for pencil drawing you must draw curtains and its folds to get a feeling for light and shadow, lava would be a fantastic material also! ;o)
