Description

Ultra Fractal 5.03, six layers used and two formulas, both created by Damien. My apologies for playing truant these last few days but I concentrated on finding and uploading three photographs which had previously been deleted from the gallery when I did the massive clearout. The plan is to do a greater exploration of those formulas which are peculiar to UF 5, and this image is the first such. I imagine most of us have difficulty evaluating works of art and probably fall back on the mantra “I know what I like.” That’s fine but the more we work at this assessment game the more the “I like” judgement is enriched – changed, and no bad thing when progress is all about self-improvement. The aloneness of aesthetic judgement is particularly stark when viewing fractal art for there are few aesthetic guidelines worthy of trust, but it suffices to find pleasure in the creation of ones own work or in viewing the images conceived by others. We build upon the “I know what I like,” principle. So it was intriguing to read an article in the Guardian UK newspaper entitled “Why modern art is all in the mind,” though it is actually a review of a new book by Paul Bloom called “How Pleasure Works.” This book has a subtitle “The New Science of Why We Like What We Like,” and seems to argue “there is no such thing as pure aesthetic judgement “(I quote those words from the article). The reality being that understanding carries a lot of personal baggage. Well, I’d say this is inevitable. The truth at any point is a temporary resting place in an unending journey. Should I buy the book? Now there is a question! As to the article, I’ll try to give a link on the UF list but it probably won't remain valid for long. Cliff.

I read with great interest your personal comments at the same time I just admire your work. It is true that our readiness is more or less, according to our personal culture, our tastes and choices in our life ... it's still good to see other artists' ideas as VUE, POSE, MojoWorld , MAYA, to impregnate the work of others. In any case we will appreciate this work in close relationship with our hearts ... and for the hooks of our work. If work does not please me, I destroyed or allowed to sleep later! Regards.
