Born in Hilo, Hawaii and class of '66, I became very active in Barbells, Judo and love striking the heavy/speed bag. I've learned to Rollerblade and bike ride which is a very health sport. But time doesn't stop for anyone including for me. So my good friend Dave aka punaguy got me started in taking pictures. I'm having fun taking pictures especially hiking the mountains. I'm enjoying seeing the world thru your post on Renderosity. Mahalo and Aloha....Errol

Great shot - looks as if it could be a dangerous place to be.

I must be the only one who thinks these people are nuts! I guess I'm just chicken. It reminds me of skating on thin ice! LOL ;P

And how well does this cool lava stand up to all the foot traffic? Wonderful shot.

This is a great picture to give us a good overview of what it looks like from a distance. I like the brave little green plants that have survived that show us there is still life in spite of the lava.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try and avoid doing that. ;)

Crazy to mess with Pele' I wonder how many will be shipping back the lava they take home after all that bad luck:)

I think I would be afraid of thin crust !!!

I walked for a long ways on that lava, and even though it wasn't flowing at the time, I knew how fragile it was. And that things could change quickly---still I'd do it again anytime!!

I just think too much about sink holes... yep, if I had some friends and they wanted me out there, i just might have to be the photographer guy = lol - and not you, cause I've seen you get a little to close to things - lol

Most interesting shot! I would have to think twice about walking on that. But, curiosity killed the cat.

I have seen this on TV, and am amazed at the brave souls who venture out into this area. Wonderful image. It's amazing how long this lava has flowed, and what it does.

It is simply an amazing view, but I am just not that darned crazy to put my life on the line to get up close and personal to way cool looking lava! I would just live with a shot with a long lens. Those who venture out have some amazing courage or are just plain nuts! Thank you for showing us this fabulous image!

I've seen children out here as young as 2 years old. One father would carry his young 2 year old son on his shoulder which is very foolish in case he fell or tripped. I have taken my grandson on a 3 to 4 mile hike one way to see the skylight. He was about 12 years old at that time. See http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1253096&np
