thought I would show some of the progress on this bridge. the bridge on Interstate 30 just down the river a 1/2 mile has had concrete fall out of the surface several times, but instead of replacing it, they build this engineering show bridge

When I was involved in bridge building we built a bridge down a road that was used by a farmer and that was about all the traffic it saw. I had a bridge already crossing a river and the one we built was to replace it.. the thing was the river was at the end of the road and after you crossed the bridge about another 50 feet and it was a gate into a farmers paddock.. This was a bridge to nowhere. Asked one of the guys from the council why they were spending all this money to build the bridge when there was a bridge there already and he told us that if the council didn't spend the money on something ie the bridge, then they couldn't get allocated that same amount of money in the new financial year from the government.. go figure...

Looks like the kind of thing they do in Michigan. It took Michigan years and years to finally build the Zilwaukee Bridge.

It is starting to take shape now isn't it and I guess someone in an office thinks its a good idea to build a new one, just not the people. A nice construction capture.

You guy don't seem to get it. You have a bridge that was built in the 30's and falling apart and you want to fix it. The cost of this new bridge is $115M and it is costing the city only $28M the rest is from donations and other programs. What a deal! The funds were alocated in 1995 when there were funds. I can't believe as artists that you don't want to see a beautiful bridge built, but instead want one built just like the one in the 1930's. Bridge design, and structual design have changed (think of a car built in the 30's). The bridge will be wider than is needed now. This is called planing for future growth. The photo is a nice documentation of the building of this beautiful scuptural bridge. - Bob

hey, why fix a hole for "pennies" when you can spend millions to build a bridge...it's the american way :) looks like nice weather down your way...here you can cut the air it's so humid...
