My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Great action capture!

True, true, true,...the part about the challenge of learning something new. A basketball game is a great place to try your hand at sports photography. The non-stop action, the intensity of the players...it is all very, very evident here. And look, you even got great reflections going in this shot from the shiny floor. Way to go:)

Another great action shot Tara!

You captured the expressions of the moment. This is a wonderful sports shot. It is always fun to learn something new. When we stop learning, we stop living. Excellent capture.

An outstanding image of a dramatic moment, full of tension and anticipation. Fantastic capture of the expressions on the players and the audience, mesmerized by the journey of the ball. Amazing for a first effort.

OK - call me wierd.... The photo really does capture the intensity of the players - well done. But what I'm cracking up over is the girl in red in the background sucking on her finger! Yeah, I'm wierd!

lol, Marilyn! Me too. This is wonderful Tara! If you've never (or rarely) shot sports before---or at least on this level & in super fast-moving B-Ball, this is really fine. (See how I called it "B-Ball"??? That makes me sound like I'm sooooo familiar...) You got the focussed action, you got that big bright red basket (if you touched it up in postwork it's great work, Tara, this is what sports photographers do; and if it's all in the capture, fine seeing!), you got the background enough to give it context, and those reflections are fine, just as bill says. He helped me understand more about this difficult craft with his comment. If this is one of your first, you're off to a terrific start. Love this. And it's great that it's women's b-ball too, because it's too neglected in the light of the big NBA hype. Love the shot, fine sports work!

Great action capture!

What a shot! I love the various expressions on everyone's faces. You know, people look so fascinating, but undignified when they're in the midst of something! That's one of those things I love about humans--our collective ability to look immensely goofy, focused, goofily-focused, or just play open-mouthed-focused as athletes tend to look in the midst of something athletic. I love this shot for its action, its sense of life and motion, its color its light and everything else. It's a superb shot that simply jiggles with everything that makes a good human-focused photo. I love the expressions on nearly every face in the frame too...and that just proves that sometimes watching the audience is as fun as watching the action on the court!

Good one....such expressions...from players to audience...and I like the reflections also.
