Description

Morro Rock is a 581' ( 177 m) volcanic plug that marks the entrance to Morro Bay, California. It's home to thousands of birds including three species of commorants and peregrine falcons. It was originally an island but a causeway now connects it to the mainland. Enjoy.

This is great! The composition is wonderful and the subject striking to behold. Makes me feel as if I spotted this out of a car window on vacation and had to stop and look at it. Fascinating!

I have stood at this same spot... back in 1973 during my nomatic flowerchild days, I had a VW fastback and 2 hounds. I was staying in a small commune in Anaheim and decided to run to the nearest A&W for a rootbeer float. On the way home I thought a drive down HWY 1 might be fun. Before I knew what happened, I was in Morro Bay looking at this rock. Needless to say, my "family" in Anaheim became concerned after I did not come home for 3 days - after all I said I was only going out for a soda - but I just loved Morro Bay and found it hard to leave. Fabulous shot that has great memories for me.

Fascinating geological feature...natural plug for a volcano. Need one of these for the oil leak in the Gulf.
