Description
On a lighter note …
In the process of authoring and design, the everyday practicalities of life aboard these warships has been on my mind –in considering descriptions of crewmen re-orienting compartment fixtures when thrust is taken off and spin is applied to the ship brought with it certain questions …
How would designers handle this contingency in terms of mounted plumbing?
Not content to merely gloss this over (as many would) I endeavored to design a fixture which might (believably) function in this role.
I wasn’t content to have this design merely cluttering up my hard drive – and so, after consulting on-line resources for examples of WWII crew orientation manuals and shipboard posters which saw actual wartime use in a time period when large numbers of (former) civilians needed to be quickly adapted to the special circumstances of life aboard naval vessels, the Service Orientation Command came into being with helpful posters by the armload …
Compartment design in Bryce. Figures added in Poser.
I was going for a bit of camp here, please enjoy.

I remember the scene in 2001 where the guy on the Aires shuttle heading to the moon is trying to figure out the sheet-length instructions to use the vari-gravity toilet. This is a similar hoot. Great design.

Ha! That's hilarious. Now if the living quarters were in a swing arm, so they could either hang back (down is towards engines) or out (away from the axis), then you wouldn't need to worry about that so much... Of course you can't do that for the whole ship.

When nature calls in microgravity environments, it's best to do a bit of reading beforehand! I love this whole image/concept and I'm glad to have a chance to browse through your gallery! This is a great piece of work and I'll most definitely be keeping up.
