------------- Sisters of the Holy Mother
It has been argued that the Gods are more trouble than they’re worth. Certainly, with the end of the Three Wars, many felt they had been too close to bringing about total annihilation of the entire planet. And again, it was the very Avatars that were turning the Western Erg into a blood bath that turned right around and saved the world from annihilation at the hands of the Shadows. Had the Shadow War gone on much longer and had the Avatars not immediately emerged from the smoke and ash victorious against them,… things might have turned out very, very different. As it was, the Gods’ place in mens’ hearts was assured. The many churches of Arrallon have flourished with the new found peace and the end of the greatest threat the world has known.
Foremost amongst those churches, arguably more powerful than the Church of Athena, and perhaps eclipsing the Pharaoh of the Iniad, Ra, is the Church of Isis. They have for centuries taught their priestesses the most powerful of magical secrets, the powers of the Mystic, combining both Divine and Arcane magics and possessing talents, feats and skills beyond most spellcasters either divine or arcane. Many of the greatest magical feats of the last century and a half were performed by the Sisters of the Holy Mother. The destruction of Vorhing, the final defeat of Kaleal S’rryth, and the fall of the Jeweled Cobra were all attributed to the powerful Mystics of the Church of Isis. Why then have they not conquered the globe, subjugated all others to their worship or waged holy war against all infidels?
Why indeed?
To know Isis is to know the Mother, the great Mother, not Mother of the Gods, but of Man. So many other Gods of the Iniad have fallen to the wayside. Isis has been there to subsume their powers and responsibility. Not only is She a Goddess of Magic, but of life, growing things, child birth, resurrection, agriculture, teaching, mathematics, science, love and sexuality. Her many aspects and many facets give Her greater worship than any other Goddess outside of Athena herself. And like Athena in the Pantheon, Isis rivals Her father’s power, but does so with wisdom, grace and good intent. Perhaps it is enough to see that She loves all mankind as Her children and as a wise Mother lets them chose their own paths,… until they stray too far.
