Description
Are you running yet? This is part of a short series of a Tornadic supercell that rolled across Southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa a few days ago. No tornado's were reported but extremely heavy rains along with dangerous Cloud to Ground lightning and damaging winds. Under the avil to this powerful Mesocyclone (Meso for short) was some incredible Mammatus clouds. All in all it was a wonderful storm to catch. I only wish I could have set the camera up on a tripod, but do to the extreme lighting, though I would stay in the truck during this.

My best friend and I used to run along side of tornadoes back home. Started when we were 14. The old highway ran through flat prairie and we had so many storms. We would drive along the highway with a tornado to our right and thrill at the back swirling cloud exploding the ground below it. The rain would be so hard it stung my arms as I hung out of the window of the car tell her to turn left or right to stay on the road because the rain was so thick we couldn't see out of the windshield. I loved the rush and odd as it seemed, never feared the storms.

You are right MrsLubner, there's somthing special about running along the sides of these storms up front and personal. The blinding rain hitting the ground, the sound of the hail as it falls from the sky, the crashing of thunder right after the entire sky fills with lightning. The hot moist air as it feeds into the beast. These storms have a life and to live with them for only a few moments, to feel the power of the earth, at times there are no words. Each storm I encounter has its own personality. Maybe thats why I love living in this part of the country.
