I was trying to create a new material for the head and I found this missing facet behind the ear.....

Is it really a hole?! Or is it just a reversed normal? Does it actually render with a hole there?

I just did a render and there is no missing facet in the rendered version. I just can't select that facet behind the ear, is all. Oh well, I suppose I shall live with that.
