Description

Well this is the last of this series, I thank you all for following along and glad that some of you really seemed to enjoyed it. I promise to now get back to my barns, mills and other things I truly love to photograph.. I loved this one it brings back memories of cruising down route 66 on our way back to California one year we took I-40 for the majority of the trip but then decided to drive along route 66 for a while what fun!!!! I remember stopping to tour the Grand Canyon Caverns, which were discovered by a man that was walking through the area on a way to a poker game, he was late for the game so he took a short cut and tripped and fell and found him self staring into a sinkhole that looked like a bottomless pit, and the Grand Canyon Caverns were discovered. Though Walter originally thought he had found a lost gold mine, further investigation proved that it was a natural limestone cave that contained no gold or precious gems at all. Walter wasn't about to give up though. The new U.S. Highway 66 passed close by and with a little promotion he thought he could entice visitors to pay a quarter to see his cave. After he lowered them down into his hole he also thought he could entice visitors to pay 50 cents to be hauled back out too. Walter was a true entrepreneur it seems. Fun place to visit if you are ever out that way. Oh and nowadays it a bit more modern you go down to the mine by elevators now not on a rope... :) thumb_2076887.jpg

I feel like we are coming to a close of an era, this series has been great! But I always find your posts so interesting. I just never had any idea there were so many different kinds of salt and pepper shakers. Truly been fascinating to see them all. Thanks!
