Description

Ah yes, the good old days, when men were men and women were women, and people liked it better that way. Captured 6/12/10, at the Centennial Aviation Day celebration held on the grounds of the beautiful Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Carson, California. Much better viewed full size. OMG, I love this stuff. People were so kind, proper and genteel back then. I was but a mere child at that time but do vaguely recall images of people, clad in their finest apparel, participating in this joyful activity. This handsome troupe, so happy and jolly, did a medley of dances popular for that era, including the Cake Walk, the Merry Widow Waltz, and stuff I don't remember at the moment. And far better than what passes for music nowadays. They put on a total of three performances during the day. The fotos I snapped were from the first performance. The aviation display -- which I'll show later -- was highly disappointing, but the crowd, performers and fun events more than made up for it. This, incidentally, is the same event where I snapped the photos of Beauty and the Pizza, previously shown. And, the slightly overcast day really helped avoid any annoying stark light and dark contrasts while taking these pics of the dancers, strutting away under an enclosure. Still had to postwork these to bring out the color and detail, though. Sayonara, thanks for clicking on, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

Fascinating ...I think that in the Uk these clothes were in fashion till about 1900, ,my great-grandma used to carry a pistol in her bustle! We still have a HUGE interest in dancing in this country, and some of the hotels in my town are for dance-specific holidaymakers.

My first thought was - thank goodness that we do not wear those big dresses anymore and have much more freedom of movement. However, after a closer look I just thought how elegant the ladies (and gentlemen) looked in those days! Lovely collage Harry!

people still are kind. I was out riding my bike the other night, my brakes went out... NOT GOOD, so I had stopped at a bench to look at them and to take a drink, and this man rode by on his bike and yelled out are you okay? and I said yeah my brakes aren't stopping.. and he rode on, well then he turned around and came back and said just checking on you, he tried for a half hour to fix them for me, told me where to take bike to get fixed and asked if I would be ok on my way to car, I thanked him and said yes, he must have been in his mid 70's and fit as can be and wow what a gentleman.. thought I would share my story about how people still are kind. Love the photos there is an area near our court house where I also go walking alot, where they do dances like this on certain evenings and square dancing as well, fun to listen to them as I am walking the trail there. Have a super day!

What a fun collection of images! I'm very glad though to live in the world of jeans and sandals. And to dress like that before air conditioning? No thanks! The guy in the grey suit, red headband and dancing with the lady in pink, looks very light on his feet. I like how you have them beginning and ending standing still and really traversing the dance floor in between. Great job on the postwork! I wouldn't want to wear those outfits but they look very nice and colorful! Great collage! Like Lynell, I have a story of the kindness of people in current days. One year ago 5 very kind young men of Vidor, Texas helped my two sons and me get our car out of thick Texas mud after it had done a 360 spin.

a great collage for sure, Harry, and yes sometimes I wish I would have lived in those old days, but then, every time has it's advantages and disadvantages...
