Description

This statue is on top of the Capitol Building in Sacramento. I couldn't find any reference on the internet as to what it is named or who the sculptor was, but it is an excellent piece of art. The statue itself is a good 60 or 70 feet above ground level, yet it caught my eye with its powerful pose. I decided to render it in B&W to bring out the detail and separate it from the blue sky. I think the natural light falling on the piece was perfect for enhancing and adding the dramatic effect the statue already conveys. I've been trying to figure out what the rider is carrying in its arms, but my best guess from this angle is a child. Why a child and what is the message still eludes me. If anyone recognizes this statue and knows the history behind it, please let me know.
