Description

This is really just a WIP test render on a testing planet I am using fo various things but I liked it so I'm posting. It was a quick render and no reflections on water. A touch of post on levels and colour etc. I've been trying to fake that TG2 style GI. There is no specific conclusion on this because it changes on every planet depending in the mats and forms. Here I have utilized a slight touch of glow and some extra warmth in shadows using sun direction surface normal dot product graph for ambient light. The water partially follows some of the terrain shapes in it's ripples because I used a clone of one of the terrain fractals to displace the water. The other thing is that I'm trying to get subtle surfaces that do not cry out fractal. Also, there were a couple of planets I uploaded to my free stuff where I was trying to demonstrate a few methods but the initial explanations in the zips were rushed and poor. I wrote those again and they are in the zips. For anyone who downloaded those before I wrote the new descriptions, it should be a bit easier to understand now.

Even without reflects the water looks great, little ripples and eddies, very cool, very realistic Peace

Re:- "The water partially follows some of the terrain shapes in it's ripples because I used a clone of one of the terrain fractals to displace the water."...so simple yet something I've never even thought of doing!!! Blending this displacement with another based upon ocean depth could yield greater fruitions IMHO :-)

Yeah exactly. Could be used just on shores. I've been thinking of a few things recently that are so obvious.

Just to mention something else I actually did here. I threw together the terrain just to get rough rock like structure to use for various tests. I cloned the terrain so I had three terrains. I adjusted the size of the terrain fractal but left a distortion. This meant that the smaller terrains got increasingly distorted. Could be possible to drive the distorting fractal's result scale with a clone of a the terrain fractal to get interesting results but I haven't tried that yet.

Full size is a must, the detail in the surface and water is impressive to say the least.

Clearly an exercize in obtaining detail - which Mojo has always been good at. Sure would like to see you get back into TG2. I was really impressed by your works.

I like the terrain formation and crispy texture...

I quite like this. It reminds me of a shallow creek running down a lumpy beach to the ocean.
