Description

One year ago today, I posted my first picture. Thank you to all who have made this such an inspiring, interesting and friendly place to be. This is the High Line in New York City and according to wikipedia, this particular section is the Urban Theatre at 10Th Avenue and 17Th Street. I didn't find that identification on the official site. (www.thehighline.org) The High line is a park built on a former elevated freight railroad. It has three sections, the first of which was opened to the public on June 9Th, 2009, the second is still being refurbished and the third (as far as I can find out) is still owned by CSX Transportation, Inc. though plans are in the works for the city to gain ownership of that part as well. When all sections are completed, it will be a mile-and-a-half-long, elevated park. I'll have more images of the High Line in weeks to come and the website has gorgeous images. My sister, Leslie and I had a wonderful time walking the part that is open and I look forward to future visits. A huge thanks for making this such an enjoyable year to everyone at Renderosity!

Lucinda, you are always so thoughtful in your comments toward others and your gallery is one I always look forward to visiting. Congratulations on your one year anniversary of posting here, and we are the lucky one's as you have provided us with a wonderful experience. Marco is right in that your description here really gave this image life and made us feel like we were right there. I think the idea of turning this into a mile and a half long elevated park is a great one.

What an image and what a way to mark one year on Renderosity! I'm quite taken by this image, quite simply because it can be looked at in so many ways and can actually Be so many different things. The information you provided is interesting, as always, and it makes me want to get out and explore a lot more than my Chicago environs (It doesn't take much to make me want to leave Chicago, however!) and I'd love to just go wandering around the area you've photographed. What I really like about this image, aside from the skill it took in capturing and presenting it, is the fact that there's a sort of visual ambiguity in it! This could be something from the present; it could be a snapshot of a very strange future, or a glimpse into a city unlike any that we've experienced on this side of reality. Those rivets and the guy's manner of dress could be New Crobuzon, or even Ul Qoma...though I get the distinct impression that you'd be forced to UnSee an Ul Qoman, but that's just my take. What an image! I really like this immensely! It's a goodie!

So thought-provoking! It could be a meaningful cameo from an opera production, such is the theatrical feel to the image. I just love the shadow of him on the frame: a terrific composition, Lucinda!

Hey, happy anniversary in re your one year period on this website, Lucinda! You made it through with nary a scratch. Maybe on your camera lens, though. Marvelous POV, stark lighting and abstract-like effects in this capture, young lady!

I like how this chap is highlighted against the building. A great capture and that park sounds rather different, I hope you have some shots of it.

A very nice shot. The shadow on the window side panel is an excellent thing and gives more power and interest to a thoughtful composition.

Hi Lucinda, Gee I almost wishing you a happy first aniversary! I finally stopped by and read your bio too. You've had lots of interesting times and travels. Your optimism is reflected in all your photography. I love this photo so aptly titled. I grew up 20 miles from New York City and vividly recall the elevated train system. But I had no idea that it was being turned into a park! What an inventive, creative thing to do. I'll bet taking the 100 year old steel supports apart would be an almost impossible task...just imagine the noise. The builders probably never gave any thought to, "Hey, what happens to all this when it is no longer needed?"
