Description

Ultra long distance point and shoot camera shot, captured 6/12/10, at the Centennial Aviation Day celebration held on the grounds of the beautiful Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Carson, California. Much better viewed full size. Sorry about the blur, but I forgot to raise the shutter speed in my patriotic fervor. One of four intrepid skydivers putting his life on the line that day for our entertainment, who, because of the massive flag he was towing, lost control and plummeted unceremoniously into a clump of trees below, creating much stunned reaction among the crowd. Fortunately, the trees cushioned his fall and he emerged relatively unscathed. What some people won't do for fun and entertainment. But, unfortunate for me, my camera batteries died immediately after the above capture, so I wasn't able to record the actual impact of the fall into the trees. But I did shoot much of the aftermath. Anyway, have a safe and sane Fourth of July!!! So long for now, thankx for the visit, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

I love the rippling of the flag! Great capture! I'm glad he was okay. Though he spoke of the day of the voting to declare independence from Great Britain, rather than the official adoption 2 days later, John Adams words are still profound. "The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."(The Book of Abigail and John: Selected Letters of the Adams Family,
