Description

A freighter towing a line of cargo pods approaches the gas giant HAT-P-14B, which is about 2 times the mass of Jupiter, and orbits its star in just a little under 4 and a half days. Discovered earlier this year. HAT-P-14P is one of a new class of extra-solar planets called "hot Jupiters". They are particularly easy to find with methods currently employed by most planet-hunters. Its rings and several of its larger moons are conjecture, of course, but seem a logical supposition. Sunspots and prominences can be seen in the photosphere of the star. which is a younger G-type star than our sun. This is a much refined version of my previously posted "rough sketch". Painted in Photoshop CS3 with the ship being modeled and rendered in Lightwave 8.5 Thanks for taking a look! -Tom

I'm not sure I commented on v1.0.... but even if I did, this version is different enough that it deserves a separate comment. It's a cool evolution in your style and a fine homage to the Alien planet approach sequence. The colors and contrasts are really striking. The ship design is cool, but it gets rather lost in the awe of looking at a star this close :)
