Description

At times photos come about easily, happily falling into your lap by chance. Most of the time however, they require a little more work than that, as was the case with this image of poppies on a sunny summer afternoon. Getting to the location required traversing a couple of particularly dense neck-high fields surrounded by nettles and thistles, and it was only by scrambling under a couple of hedges that I was eventually able to make up for my initially errant sense of direction! When I reached the spot I wanted to photograph the fairly constant wind and strong afternoon sun presented their own challenges, as the image I was looking to create would be flare-free, with the poppies rendered stationary in the blowing wind. With the pollen count also at a very high level, my dormant hayfever decided now would be a good time to break out for the first time this season, making it increasingly difficult to see anything clearly through my streaming red eyes! Eventually I had to retreat in search of remedies, but I'm happy enough that I at least managed to bring away some souvenir images for my troubles. =) Adam
