Description

The Indian Head Rock Profile, a granite rock formation that resembles the head of an American Indian, sits overlooking Shadow Lake in Franconia Notch. This natural rock formation, formed during the great ice age some 6,000 years ago, forms the summit of Mount Pemigewasset (Elevation 2,593 feet) and measures 98 feet from forehead to chin. It was fully exposed during a forest fire in 1901. As the legend is told, the Indian Head profile, was long ago used as a lookout by Chief Pemigewasset of the Abenaki Indian Tribe. This photo is untouched except for cropping. Taken July 4th. Zoom in for a better look at the details. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Great Scott, that does look like the profile of a native American Indian! And he looks to be covered with buffalo hide, which would be quite appropriate. Great POV on this shot, Dana!
